Friends members and Master Naturalists assist in mentoring the students learning the chemistry involved, as well as beginning to understand the charachteristic of stream bank management and the effect of erosion, silt and other components on the macroinvertebrate life in the creek.
Mike Jirka and Dr. Dry have developed a format for recording baseline data including water chemistry, macro invertebrate, insect and minnow inventories and also pictures of stream bank conditions.
This is a wonderful educational opportunity for all and highlights the role of the urban creek in the network of streams that in this case lead to the White River - Friends of the Rivers focus.
