Mountain Home, AR – July 9, 2024 – Dry Run Creek Academy (DRCA) launched its first group program recently with the Brook Trout Level Class. This free introductory level fly-fishing program welcomed a group of enthusiastic young anglers (ages 6-15) to world class trout fishing on Dry Run Creek next to the Norfork National Fish Hatchery.

Led by experienced fly fishing mentors, the students learned fly selection, various casting and line management techniques using DRAGONtail tenkara rods, observed live macroinvertebrates (bugs) from the creek the trout eat, caught beautiful rainbow and cutthroat trout and learned the techniques of safe handling and releasing the trout.

After successfully completing the Brook Trout Level class students, were awarded a certificate of achievement and a medal. Students who complete the Brook Trout Level class are eligible to participate in the Rainbow Trout Level class scheduled in August. To date 23 students have successfully completed the Brook Trout level class.

The next Brook Trout Level class at Dry Run Creek is scheduled for Saturday, July 27 from 9:00 12:00. If you are not able to attend the next scheduled class, contact Steve Blumreich to explore other schedule options.

DRCA provides all necessary equipment and supplies for the class, including: DRAGONtail tenkara and traditional fly rods, nets, flies, and polarized youth glasses. This free program is made possible by the support of DRCA sponsors and provides a unique opportunity for young people to experience “The Sport and Science of Fly Fishing”.
