Save The Buffalo… Forever: Community Discussion & Action Night

Norfork Brewing CompanyThe Buffalo River is one of Arkansas’ greatest treasures— free-flowing clean water, beautiful scenery, and a place for everyone to enjoy. But right now, it’s at risk. Senate Bill 290 could undo the protections that have kept the Buffalo safe from industrial pollution, opening the door for massive animal feeding operations (CAFOs) in the watershed.
What’s at stake?
For years, a moratorium has helped prevent large-scale factory hog farms from polluting the Buffalo. Now, SB 290 wants to end that protection, making it easier for industrial farms to set up near the river—potentially threatening water quality, wildlife, and local businesses that depend on outdoor tourism.
Why should you care?
Free-Flowing Clean water is on the line. Pollution from factory farms could damage the river’s ecosystem and drinking water. Our local economy depends on the river. If the Buffalo is polluted, it could impact fishing, floating, and tourism jobs. This is our home, and our voices matter. Lawmakers need to hear that Arkansans want to keep the Buffalo clean and protected.

SB 290 IS MOVING FAST – ACT NOW! Tuesday, March 4 – SB 290 will be heard in the Senate Agriculture Committee at 10 AM (Room 309 at the Capitol). If it passes, it could go to a full Senate vote that same day. Wednesday, March 5 – If approved, it could be in the House Agriculture Committee the next day.The Buffalo River Watershed Alliance (BRWA) will be at the Capitol to testify against SB 290 and we need your help.
